Mitera Hospital, Athens (Marousi)
www.mitera.gr

Mitera was founded in the early 1970's by 30 obstetricians and gynaecologists and now offers obstetrics/gynaecology, paediatrics, diagnostics and a general clinic. With 790 salaried employees and 1,500 collaborating doctors in 30 specialties, Mitera ranks among the leading nursing institutes in Europe and worldwide.

With modern equipment, 6 delivery rooms, neonatal, child and adult intensive care units, an adult increased care and positive pressure unit, scientific staff of Mitera are fully alerted to respond to any need that might occur on a 24/7 basis.

The Administration of Mitera Hospital attaches great importance to the continuous education of the scientific personnel. Regular scientific meetings have been established and a developing collaboration has started with Harvard University (Mass) General Hospital for Children.

Mitera scientific research specialises in the fields of placental blood and stem cells, Down Syndrome and congenital embryonic abnormalities, hormone receptors, infertility/fertility, neonatal jaundice and juvenile onset diabetes.

Mitera has been a pioneer in Greece in the field of laboratory diagnostics, conducting tests, many of which are not offered in any other nursing unit in Greece.

It also offers a 1.0 Tesla open MRI unit, which offers clear medical advantages in many cases. It also offers greater patient comfort and the new Ambient Experience' facilty reduces patient stress.

This is particularly helpful for children, who can otherwise be very resistant and require mild sedation, adding 6-8 hours to recovery time. Stress to children is further reduced by performing their own 'scans' first. They choose a toy to put into a miniature MRI device, to see whether it is sick and they see what the surgeons see.

Obstetrics - Gynaecology

More than 12,000 babies are born every year at the Mitera Obstetrics Clinic, Furthermore, on the basis of its high success rates, the Premature Babies Department (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of three levels I, II, III) is ranked among the safest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Europe.

About 8,000 important surgical and gynaecological operations take place at Mitera Gynaecological Clinic annualy and facilities include:

Laparoscopic surgery Nutrition/dietetics - obesity department

CKR Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centre
Konstantin, Poland

The Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centre is a modern facility that offers comprehensive treatments for locomotor disorders. Founded in 1977, the centre has specialised in this area for over 30 years.

In accordance with the Polish School of Rehabilitation – the co-founder of which was Professor Marian Weiss, Dr.Med.Sc., the originator of the CKR Centre – rehabilitation is perceived as a process of physical, psychological and social recovery.

The centre's aim is not only to improve health, overall fitness and independence of patients, but also at bringing back the confidence in their abilities, encouraging them to be active and taking preventive measures to stay healthy.

The centre has a focus on rheumatic orthopaedic surgery, spinal surgery and arthroscopy procedures, used in sports medicine, among others. Use of minimally invasive surgery considerably shortens hospitalisation time and accelerates recovery.

Visit CKR to read more ...

Rehabilitation

CKR specialises in the treatment of orthopaedic, rheumatological and neurological locomotor disorders, such as:
• Spinal pain syndrome due to degenerative or post-traumatic changes and congenital malformations
• Peripheral arthralgia due to degenerative or post-traumatic changes and congenital malformations
• Rheumatic disorders of the locomotor system and other systemic locomotor disorders
• Congenital malformations of the skeletomuscular system
• Neurogenic locomotor dysfunction including late consequences of stroke and peripheral nerve injuries

Consultations

CKR offers consultations with specialist physicians in the fields of orthopaedics, medical rehabilitation, rheumatology, neurology, neurosurgery, internal medicine and endocrinology. Based on the patient’s medical history, physical examination and the laboratory results obtained during the visit, the physician assesses the patient’s condition and prescribes appropriate medications.

The physician creates an individual rehabilitation schedule, taking into consideration the nature, duration, frequency and sequence of treatments. Due to the gathering of physicians of various specialties in one location, it is possible to obtain additional consultations in order to achieve a full diagnosis.

Minor procedures such as joint/nerve blocks, injections (periarticular/perispinal) and light resin dressings are available and each patient has an individual rehabilitation programme. This may include the following:

Kinisitherapy, such as manual therapy (Kaltenborn-Evjenth, Cyriax, neuromobilisation), the McKenzie method, the Brobath method or Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)

Physiotherapy
– exposing the body to physical stimuli generated with special equipment, such as Electrotherapy (electrostimulation, galvanisation, ionophoresis, diadynamic currents, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator [TENS] currents), Magnetotherapy (TheraPulse, SCANLAB, Magnetronic), Ultrasound and phonophoresis, Laser therapy (laser scanner and focal), Hydrotherapy (hydrocollator, whirlpool massage, Scottish water whips) or Focal cryotherapy

Massages – partial and full-body.

Systemic cryotherapy
This is used as an adjunctive treatment method for locomotor diseases and involves exposing the surface of the body to very low temperatures (below 110°C/-166°F) in a special cryochamber, for one to three minutes. The procedure is painless and very well tolerated. It is followed by an intensive 30-minute kinesitherapy session under the guidance of a physiotherapist.

Short-term exposure to very low temperatures has anti-inflammatory, antiedematous and analgesic effects, causes muscle relaxation and increases muscle strength. This results in increased effectiveness of physical exercises conducted after the procedure.

Cryotherapy increases immunity against infections and improves the bone mineralisation process. The procedure also improves the feeling of wellbeing through the release of endorphins and testosterone, which relieve fatigue as well as raise the patients’ spirits.
